“We wanted to scale the business beyond our current capacity without destroying the family culture we spent decades building.”
Tell us about Rudolph Industries and its history.
Rudolph Industries is the recognized leader in knife manufacture and injector needles for the global food processing industry. Over the past six decades, Rudolph has worked closely with the most sophisticated food processing plants in the world, developing a premier line of bowl cutter knives, specialty slicing knives, and injector needle products.
What made you choose Permanent as the new owner?
We liked Permanent's long-term perspective and their promise to develop the company without artificial exit timelines. We spoke to traditional private equity firms, but their 5-year flip mentality didn't align with our values.
Permanent had a deep understanding of the industrial space, and they offered a high degree of autonomy. The long-term future of our staff was an incredibly important part of our decision.
How has it been to work under Permanent's ownership?
Permanent has been absolutely true to their word. Our continued growth has accelerated. We have invested in major new machinery and brought on additional people to help super-charge our growth. Permanent gives our local management high autonomy, and day-to-day operations feel exactly the same as before, just with a much stronger financial backbone.

“Permanent gave us a long-term ownership horizon, and an inherent interest in developing the business here in Newark. That was our priority.”
Tell us about ViOptix and its history.
ViOptix is a leading medical device company specializing in non-invasive tissue oximetry systems used to measure oxygen saturation in reconstructive and surgical flaps. Our technology provides surgeons with critical, real-time data, and we have operated with a deep commitment to R&D and clinical excellence since our founding.
Why Did You Choose To Sell The Company?
After years of building ViOptix, we wanted ensure the business kept growing under an owner who would treat it as more than a quick flip. Scaling in a complex medical device market takes capital and patience, and we wanted a partner who shared that long-term view rather than pushing for a near-term exit.
What Made You Choose Permanent As The New Owner?
What mattered most was finding an owner who understood niche medical products and would keep investing in R&D to improve our current portfolio. Permanent's long-term horizon let us focus on our core technology and customer relationships under the same brand and culture. They were also straightforward, transparent, and highly professional throughout diligence and the transaction.
How has it been to work under Permanent's ownership?
It has been exceptional. Permanent's long-term focus let us realign our objectives around the core products and the long game, without the pressure to chase a quick exit. We've kept our identity but now operate with the confidence of a permanent financial partner behind us.
